Making your own WhatsApp stickers: this is how you do it

WhatsApp stickers are a kind of hybrid of gifs and emojis: large pictures that you send to someone with one tap. There are already a number of standard stickers and sticker packs in WhatsApp and you can easily download new stickers. But the best part is of course: making WhatsApp stickers yourself!

Create WhatsApp stickers: iPhone

Making WhatsApp stickers is not possible in WhatsApp itself. Still want to make personal stickers? Then there are many different apps that you can use. For iPhone, Sticker Maker is the most popular, mainly because the app is free and very easy to use.


  1. Open the app and choose the photo you want to turn into a sticker.
  2. Cut out the photo or erase (parts of) the background.
  3. You can also add text or other emoji.
  4. Want to make multiple stickers for WhatsApp? Then make a sticker pack!
  5. When you're ready, you can immediately load your new sticker (package) into WhatsApp.
  6. Open a chat, tap the sticker icon next to the camera button (iPhone) or the sticker icon on the emoji screen (Android) and choose the sticker you want to send. Finished!


Create WhatsApp stickers: Android

Making WhatsApp stickers with your Android device is about the same as with an iPhone, but it is best to use the Wemoji app for this. Wemoji is also basically completely free.


  1. Open the app and then your camera roll. Here you choose the image(s) you want to make a sticker from.
  2. In the app you will find various tools to edit your photo. You can, for example, remove the background, draw or add text.
  3. Finished? You can add your sticker or sticker set to WhatsApp from the app.

Would you rather leave the creative tinkering to someone else? In WhatsApp, you can easily save your friends' stickers by adding them as favorites. You do this by tapping the sticker with your finger. Keep it pressed and choose 'Add to favorites'. You can find your favorites in the sticker menu (under the asterisk). Want to download ready-made sticker packs? Then follow these steps:

  1. Open any conversation in WhatsApp.
  2. Tap the sticker icon and then the plus sign at the top right.
  3. You will now enter a kind of sticker shop. Click on the arrow next to the collection to download the WhatsApp stickers.
  4. Close the sticker shop. The entire collection is now in the sticker overview. Tap a sticker to send it instantly.
